During the 2009/2010 school year all Youth Arts residencies at the elementary school will be working with local artists to create fun fish. This is a community-building project where each student will create a fish.  During this residency they will also learn more about art history as well as the biology, anatomy, and structure of fish connecting to their regular classroom curriculum.

And why are all the residencies about the FishES?  Youth Arts is designing a permanent piece of public art for the two-story entryway of the new elementary school to encompass these fish.  The student-created fish are going to be installed in this permanent piece of kinetic art for all to enjoy for many years to come.

Individually each fish will be beautiful, but together they will become something more powerful.  The existence of this piece of community art embodies the concept of many individuals coming together to create something unique and wonderful.  This art is being created by the school for the school!
