Come and visit the Center for Maine Contemporary Art! Students at Camden-Rockport Middle School have been engaged in a year long Alphabet Project.
As part of an ongoing effort to improve the vocabulary of our students, Principal Maria Libby, and Literacy coach Michelle Gabrielsen have been working to introduce grade academic vocabulary throughout the year. Working with local artist Ingrid Ellison, students in all four grades learned various methods of printmaking, such as gelatin prints, linoleum prints, collographs and monotypes with collage. Using these techniques, they chose to spell out words inspired by the creativity shown in every student at the middle school.
The Alphabet Project, in addition to other local school students’ art, will be displayed at the CMCA Student and Teacher Art Show beginning April 28, with a community reception from 1-4 pm, and run through May 6. The Alphabet Project was funded through a grant from Youth Arts.
