ARTWORK ENTITLED "BAMBOO" BY JEAN KIGEL
This piece is a sumi-e on shuen which is traditional black ink painting on rice paper. Down East and the Far East mix in Kigel’s psyche and in her art. She paints from a storehouse of childhood images and Eastern travels. Keenly aware of how nature is stressed by the imposition of the wealth of the few upon the good of the many, Kigel feels compelled to depict the saga of plants and animals in their various stages and from various vantage points. Art buoys Kigel’s soul: each day she awakes to seek images of the past and the present. She wants her work to capture the vitality and beauty of dwindling species, and hopes that her paintings intensify public awareness of man’s alarming (and sometimes beneficial) effects on our ecosystem.  Donated by Jean Kigel
